Portfolios Shine on Masterpiece Hub
Masterpiece Hub is a fresh platform for designers to showcase their portfolios without abandoning their beautiful websites. Hyunsol Park, senior industrial design student from Arizona State University, created Masterpiece Hub when he realized the unfortunate roles personal websites play in a designer’s life.
Designers across the world are encouraged to create websites with their work. While sites like Behance and Coroflot compile portfolio projects, they strip designers of their accompanying websites. “Designers still want their own portfolio websites that represents their own brand, style, and personality…” Masterpiece Hub exists to tighten the global community of student designers so that they may inspire one another and grow.
“[W]e spend so many time and effort on creating a portfolio website and all we do is use them to apply for a job via email that might not necessarily be reviewed by the companies because of the high volume of emails they get.” Park told Dikore. But what happens once designers are hired? The hours and money invested in our websites retreat back to their online shelves.
Park also believes that compiling designers’ websites can help design firms in their hiring process. “Unlike hiring interns, when hiring senior levels, the firm has to actively go out and search for the talents and they often use headhunters to do so. However, when they do find a candidate and when they go to an interview phase, it often becomes a waste of both parties time because they were mismatched.”
